About M.O.S.H. Counseling Services

Our Story

M.O.S.H. Counseling Services was founded by Dr. Christian Henry in 2024 in remembrance of her paternal grandmother Mary Odessa Sampson Henry (“M.O.S.H.”) aka “Nana.” Dr. Henry’s grandmother made her promise to become a doctor to establish a legacy within the family while she was on her death bed courageously fighting breast cancer in 2006. In 2023 Dr. Henry kept her loving Nana’s promise, and obtained her doctoral degree at the age of 29 years old becoming the first African American doctor under the age of 30 years old as a Commerce native at Texas A&M University – Commerce maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She followed in her grandmother’s footsteps as she always had a desire to help those in need.

Mary Odessa Sampson Henry (“M.O.S.H.”)

October 12, 1949 – April 17, 2006

Mary Odessa Sampson Henry was Dr. Christian Henry’s grandmother AKA “nana.” Dr. Henry had a close relationship with her “nana” and spent a multitude of time with her before she passed away of breast cancer when Dr. Henry was in the 6th grade. Nana was the matriarch of the Henry family, and her and papa George’s house served as the meeting place for all the family to congregate. Dr. Henry’s fondest conversations with her nana were two weeks before she passed. The conversation was nana asking the young Dr. Henry to promise to keep the legacy of the family alive by becoming the first doctor in the family. At the time, Dr. Henry did not know what nana meant by that considering that she was only 11 years old, however, she made nana’s wish come true! When Dr. Henry finished her doctoral studies, she automatically knew that she wanted to create a private practice in honor of her dear nana.

Mrs. Henry was a humanitarian that loved to advocate and serve in the community. She was a past president of the Commerce chapter of NAACP and the past secretary of the Norris Community Club. Further, Mrs. Henry was active in her church as the choir and program director. She had a passion for helping those in need during their grieving process by being a director of a funeral home.
